MAPLETON'S ORGANIC

Mapleton’s Organic Dairy is a family owned and operated farm. They raise and care for the cows that supply the milk for their delicious ice cream, frozen yogurt, and fresh yogurt. Besides a dairy herd, they also raise young dairy animals, a flock of laying hens to supply eggs for the ice cream, and pigs for organic pork.

In the summer there are grain-fed, free-range chickens and turkeys. All the feed for the animals is grown on the farm and the manure they provide is used (after composting) to fertilize the fields. In addition to growing all the feed for the animals, some crops for human consumption are also grown such as spelt, soybeans, corn, potatoes, and pumpkins.  A tour of Mapleton's fortunately includes time with Reroot: an organic CSA.

Caitlin Hall  started reroot organic CSA in 2007.  Reroot is a small community-shared agriculture project dedicated to growing delicious, healthy and safe food in ways that protect the ecological viability of the land. More than 50 types of vegetables and herbs are started in a greenhouse, and grown on land located at Mapleton’s Organic Dairy, certified organic since 1990. In 2008, reroot grew food for 60 shareholders in its three-acre vegetable garden, providing a weekly harvest from mid-June until late October.
